Welcome to your last year of high school! I’m really excited to share this time with you – it will be a lot of work, but I’m confident you will have a memorable year. My goals in English class this year are for you to:

  • Figure out what you enjoy reading and why
  • Find your voice as a writer
  • Develop strategies that work for you to engage with challenging texts
  • Make your thinking and learning visible through metacognition
  • Write in a way that goes through the brain and to the heart (see the Maya Angelou quote in the blog header)

We’ll work towards this goals through a “lens” of voice and truth. As we read, we will analyze writers’ voices and how they express truth. This will help you to develop your own voice as a speaker and writer in order to share your own truth or perception of truth effectively.

This blog is your English class home base. I’ll post updates, assignments, and weekly vocabulary here, and I hope to feature samples of your work from time to time. You’ll also create your own blog in which you will write about your SSR books (for a grade). All of your blogs will be on this home page, so you will be able to visit each other’s blogs and comment on them.

Let the good times begin….
